The Whole Family plays... well except the Wife!! January 2, 2009 I bought the Wii Guitar Hero III(GH3) and Guitar Hero World Tour (GHWT) as Christmas presents for both of my sons. They both have the Guitar Hero III guitars so lucky no arguments there.
On playing both games, Guitar Hero World Tour is so much more easier on the easy level compared Guitar Hero III. The Coop mode is really good GH3 and difficult on Bass as well as Guitar. We did complete on easy level eventually. The worrying thing with GHWT so far since my boys have been playing on easy level is that they haven't actually failed any gigs since they've been playing in band mode, where as GH3 is more challenging. GHWT overall looks to be a much bigger game but there are some songs which do seem to be a bit too long. What i do like is that you can play at different levels in band mode as my youngest son of 5 has had a go with his brothers and played at beginner level(which you only have to hit the stum button). To be able to create your own character has kept my eldest son amused for hours alone. From designing your dressware to creating your guitar exactly for you.
None of us had played Guitar heros before this but it's a massive hit in our house from 40 year old down to a 5 year old! I think what I really like about these games, no violence just music..... It is also building their aprreciation for music from 60s, 70s, 80s,etc. The only thing now is that they want the drums and microphone and my singing is awful!
We've not used the wireless internet version yet and I understand that you can download new songs as well as compete. I am hoping that you can pick any artists and download loads of songs... More Jimi Hendrix, Rolling Stones but you know what would be brillant.. Kings of Leon - Crawl or Sex on Fire. Hope you're listening out there, this could actually double record sales on some songs with you being able to download the latest song in Guitar Hero.
Anyway overall review buy it for the family as there's something for everyone, well except the wife that is (unless she's a rock chic!).
Guitar Hero World Tour overall is better than Guitat Hero 3 but if you get the chance to get GH3 cheap buy it just to play:- Barrucuda - Heart (never ever heard it before but great track) Rolling Stones - Paint it Black (absolutely awesome and that's what my son said!!!) Killers - When you were young.
Disappointing December 20, 2008 8 out of 9 found this review helpful
I bought the guitar bundle on the Wii and after Guitar hero III this was a big disappointment to me.
Bad Points: The songs, if you know many, go on for a long time and became monotonous and boring, I was even waiting for some of them to end. I felt sorry for who would have to sing them in the band.
The guitar is quite heavy compared to the previous one and the strummer is a bit stiffer and the buttons heavier, so if you play for a long time like I do, it's painful!!! The whammy is too long and gets in the way.
After excitedly buying my new guitar!!! I didn't reckon much to the new slider and tap bar. The colours denoting the slider notes are facing downwards so only someone watching you can see them, rather than the guitarist and the spacing is so big compared to the buttons that if you have small hands it's difficult to move quickly on them. To do some of the riffs you have to tap the notes AND press the corresponding buttons at the same time. This is quite hard and you need octopus hands for this as then you have to move back to playing normal notes on the strummer quite quickly. Only seriously obsessed hero III guitarists will manage this in my opinion!!!
Saying this, the songs are easier to play than on hero III. I have nearly finished 'Hard' on hero III. 'Hard' setting on world tour was more like the 'Medium' setting on Hero III so most of the game was gone as I was playing 'Expert' on World Tour to get a challenge- I completed 'Hard' and there were only 2 bosses to play against near the beginning of the game.
I found the composition section difficult to use. I can read music and tried to compose a known tune but couldn't find 'B' on the guitar scale I was using. I ended up using the chromatic keyboard instrument but you have to lift your guitar to go up an octave. This was awkward when playing and you had to remember not to lower your guitar or the notes went down an octave again. I wanted to compose a 'Gary Moore' tune... I think I would have managed Three Blind Mice... The sound of the provided compositions was disappointing.
Good Points: You can play about with how your guitarist looks and buy them lots of stuff to wear and neat guitars. You can change hair, face shape, eye colour, make-up etc. You could design someone to look like yourself or put one of the main characters in. (Slash and Tom Morello aren't in this one.)
You can choose to play bass as well as/or lead guitar.
It's got a beginner section for those that just want to practice strumming without worrying about the notes.
The guitar is wireless so you can jump and dance about whilst playing...much fun!!! :-)
Conclusion- I think this game is more for guitarists that want an easier game, or for a band set up. Older people might know more of the songs, but I doubt kids will know many.
It's more pop than rock.
